This mi ed media painting by Chatchai Puipia features a uni ue
process distinct from his regular method. The artist burned paint
and materials in his studio and then incorporated the ashes into
the artwork. This method draws from the Chinese ritual of burning
joss paper ong e to honor family members ancestors or
important figures. This process is integrated with his depiction
of the charred still life of sunflowers. t powerfully e okes the
iewer s emotions and raises uestions on the impact of loss
both personal and collecti e. The composition intentionally
echoes Vincent an ogh s still life paintings referencing the
iconic utch artist associated with mpressionism. Therefore
this artwork brings the character of the Appropriation Art style.
As a result this work also falls within the realm of appropriation
art a practice where e isting imagery is reinterpreted to create
new meaning from the artist s perspecti e.
