In an artist9s career, there are certain significant works worthy of being inscribed in the pages of history. One such work marks a pivotal turning
point toward the artistic path Thawan Duchanee has long sought4a work from a period of exceptional rarity, of which only a handful of examples
exist. Following his studies abroad, Western art strongly influenced the use of color in Thawan9s early works, until he came to discover what he
regarded as the true essence and spirit of Thai identity. This work stands as an opening chapter of his golden era, marking Thawan9s deeper
exploration and development of Thai art. He began to distill the palette of his earlier period into the elemental colors of gold leaf, vermilion, royal
blue, and the deep black of lacquer. He also conceived his own distinctive decorative patterns, conveying deeper meanings through stylized forms
and animal imagery. The work brings to life a powerful battle scene from the epic Ramakien, rendered through dynamic lines and articulated
anatomy that become inseparable from Thawan9s artistic identity. It is regarded as one of the most powerful oil paintings on canvas of his career,
and as a foundational work that would inform and shape his artistic creation throughout the rest of his life.
