Manit Poo-aree was among the first students of Professor Silpa Bhirasri and distinguished himself in both painting and printmaking. Much of his
work draws upon Thai forms and ways of life, integrating them with modern art through a distinctive approach to composition. Ta Kraw is one of
his significant woodcuts and a work that brought him particular recognition. With its simple concept and dynamic lines attuned to the gestures and
movements depicted, the work conveys the aesthetic of Thai art with remarkable depth. It was awarded the First Prize, Gold Medal in Printmaking
at the 12th National Exhibition of Art in 1961. Professor Silpa Bhirasri once remarked of the work:
